History Cambridge volunteer David and Programs Manager Beth looking at archives in the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House

Join the staff of History Cambridge and special guest Mike Kuchta, co-author of the recent book Born In Cambridge: 400 Years of Ideas and Innovatorsat the historic Hooper-Lee-Nichols House for Open Archives.

Together we will highlight previous industries of Cambridge and view early innovations “born” in Cambridge from companies such as Polaroid (cameras), Fresh Pond Ice Company (ice harvesting), Elias Howe (sewing machine), and more.

This is event is free, but registration is required as space is limited.

Our event is only one of the many Open Archives events taking place this year from June 5-9. Open Archives is a annual celebration and exploration of Cambridge, hosted by the Cambridge Historical Commission. The event provides opportunities to speak with archivists across the city and get a behind the scenes look at different historical collections. You can find out more regarding Open Archives and the other repositories that are opening their doors on the Cambridge Historical Commission’s landing page.
