June 7: Open Archives 2023: Born in Cambridge

On June 7th 2023 History Cambridge and special guest Mike Kuchta, co-author of the recent book Born In Cambridge: 400 Years of Ideas and Innovators, were joined by members of the community at the historic Hooper-Lee-Nichols House for Open Archives.
Together highlighted previous industries of Cambridge and vieweed early innovations “born” in Cambridge from companies such as Polaroid (cameras), Fresh Pond Ice Company (ice harvesting), Elias Howe (sewing machine), and more.
The event went incredibly well, and we extend many thanks to Mike for joining us.
Our event was only one of the many Open Archives events that took place in 2023 from June 5-9. Open Archives is an annual celebration and exploration of Cambridge, hosted by the Cambridge Historical Commission. The event provides opportunities to speak with archivists across the city and get a behind the scenes look at different historical collections.
