On October 1, History Cambridge participated in the Cambridge Bicycle Committee’s annual Bow Tie Ride (named for the outline of the city, which resembles a bowtie). Program Manager Beth Folsom spoke to over a hundred riders during a tour stop in Danehy Park, sharing the history of that site from the prehistoric era through to its recent reclamation and use as a public park.
Participants learned about the many areas of Cambridge history that are encapsulated in that space, from its use by the Indigenous peoples who called the land home before European colonization, to its role in the industrial and immigration trends of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, to the ways in which the Danehy Park site has been a model for other land reclamation efforts in the city.
Thank you to the Cambridge Bicycle Committee for inviting us to be a part of this event!
