July 8 Event Recap: History in the Park

On Saturday, July 8, History Cambridge held a History in the Park event in Dana Park, where we shared artifacts and information about the history of the Cambridgeport neighborhood. This event, made possible by a Cambridge Plays Grant from the City of Cambridge, was a great way to engage with residents, share stories of their Cambridgeport experiences, and find out what questions they have about the neighborhood. We also held a pop-up tour of the area, culminating in a stop at St. Augustine’s African Orthodox Church, where we learned about the history of the congregation and the recent efforts by Black History in Action for Cambridgeport to restore the church building and to share the history of Cambridge’s thriving Black community.
