National Archives, New England Regional Center
Overview: The National Archives offices located in Waltham, MA are the New England regional offices of the National Archives and Records Administration. The institution is home to the permanent records of the Federal government for New England and houses materials dating from 1790 to the present day.
American Revolution Materials: The National Archives materials related to the American Revolution consist primarily of pension and military service records for all of the states involved in the Revolutionary War. Because many of these records are available through Ancestry.com and Fold3.com, full microfilms of the documents are no longer available. The materials may also be accessed in the National Archives reference room via public access computers.
Key Words: census records, Continental Army, pensions, soldiers/militia
Collection Policies: The National Archives continue to expand through new records transferred from Federal agencies. Finding aids are available for collections: most are paper, but there are also some electronic indices accessible on-site. Record descriptions with indices and finding aids are currently being entered into the Archival Research Catalog (ARC). Original records are rarely loaned for exhibits.
