Unauthorized Demolitions

Three other replications came about as the result of demolitions not authorized by the Commission. Sullivan noted that unauthorized demolition is punishable by a two-year moratorium on new construction, which can sometimes be cut short if the perpetrator agrees to construct a replica of the lost structure.

At 6-8 Salem St., contractors “got ahead of themselves” in renovating an 1829 workers duplex.
