The 2022 temporary art installation “Forgotten Souls of Tory Row: Remembering the Enslaved People of Brattle Street” by Black Coral, Inc. reminds us of the thriving community of people with Caribbean heritage here in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
In 2018, our Caribbean Heritage Oral History Project collected interviews of nine Cambridge people who were born in or have roots in the Caribbean. These interviews help us gain perspective on what it’s like to be both from Cambridge and from the Caribbean.
History Cambridge is interested in collecting the stories of people moved by the bottle trees installation and the history they represent. Please share your thoughts with us on this short survey.
If you are interested in contributing a fuller oral history to our collection, please reach out to us directly to learn more. Contact Marieke Van Damme, Executive Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
