East Cambridge Childhoods

Danny Percoco has lived in East Cambridge his entire life. His father and uncle owned a grocery store on the corner of Thorndike and Fifth. Growing up he used to work in the store selling penny candy. Danny is still active in the neighborhood volunteering at the O’Connell Library and Sacred Heart Church. Jean has lived on Thorndike St in the same house in East Cambridge her entire life. Growing up she was part of the Girl Scouts and the Girls Glee Club. She and two friends appeared on Teen Time for one summer. Today Jean is active at Sacred Heart Church. Alfred has always lived in Cambridge. He lived in East Cambridge until he was nine years old and then moved to mid-Cambridge on Leonard Avenue. He has a twin brother and growing up, everyone in the neighborhood knew the “twins”. Alfred is on the Cambridge School Committee and has been for 27 years. Candy’s father owned the Court House Barber Shop at 257 Cambridge St. Every Sunday her and her siblings would help clean the barbershop. Today Candy owns the building and her chiropractic practice is there. back to CHS home page
